Not bad drives ok and sounds good. My question is timing. The motor is a 73 350 with Edelbrock heads, intake, and 650 carb, with a crane cam. I am using an hei distributor. I would start by double checking your wires on the cap are going to the correct cylinders following the firing order. If you have swapped a couple it could still run and depending which cylinders are affected could result in the backfiring issue.
