91 2.5L engine sputter/backfire. I just bought a used YJ for a project with my two sons. We've spent all weekend trying to diagnose an engine issue with no success. The engine starts right up and idles fine. Aug 11, 2003 · The cowl vent can work if properly maintained. There is a drain for it; open your hood and you'll see a very large tube coming out of the firewall with a "flapper valve" on the end. That transducer will convert the movements of the steering wheel into an electrical signal you can run wires to a rack that came from a car that had drive by wire. Systems like this are used by oems.After a few to many close calls trying to stop the Jeep, I ended up doing the 95 dual diaphram booster upgrade. After doing some research and reading as many post on here that have done this, I went out and bought the parts and completed the swap. Connected red wire to red wire going to starter solenoid on battery positive side. The alternator is a brand new and so is the wiring harness going into the back/side of the alternator.

You will need to provide the fuel pump relay with another source of switched power, as the Jeep ECM is not providing one now.
