Of all the things you will do as a premed, it is quite possibly the only thing med schools do NOT care about. I would recommend starting with your school's prereqs. Definitely go in taking chemistry and lab, and maybe also biology.

You're fine. You need to just balance it out with non clinical volunteering. Shadowing is fine for clinical exposure. The only reason why SDN and every other premed does clinical volunteering is because it kills two birds with one stone - it gives you "clinical experience" and volunteering hours. Woohoo.

For premeds with a 3.0 GPA or sub 3.0 GPA, a DIY post-bacc may be the way to go. Deciding if a formal or DIY post-bacc is right for you will depend on your personal needs and goals, so do your research and weigh the pros/cons.
