There is NO other way to "dismantle" the gate parts. If you want to "destroy" the gate, you need 12 Grenades, or 4 Plastic Explosives. You need just 2 plastic explosives to destroy a gate/fence. I realized I had forgotten the combonation so I deconstructed the gate so I could get the lock and set the combo.
