Oct 1, 2013 · For my front diff the fill plug requires a Allen wrench or socket. ALWAYS take the fill plug off before the drain plug otherwise if that fill plug gets stuck you have no way of adding fluid. Also it'd be wise to do the rear diff at the same time. I did my t-case and trans too.

The heat allows for expansion and the oil will be drawn in toward the heat allowing it to really penetrate. Wait 10 min, re heat with torch and I guarantee that bolt will come loose with any breaker bar.

It has the 3VZE, a Automatic tranny, 4WD. For trans and diffs, I just use Napa brand. ATF fluid for trans and T-case and 80-90w gear oil in the diffs. I think the manual may suggest 75-90w for some temps. Will probably do the next oil change at 20,000 miles. I don't really have a schedule that I follow, but I'll never go over 10,000 miles between changes.Oil drain pan under read diff. Remove upper plug, set aside. Remove lower plug and drain out the gear oil. Clean the lower plug, inspect for shavings. Replace lower plug. Fill top opening with new gear oil (I use Mobil 1 synthetic). Diff is full when the oil get to the lip of the fill opening. The T-case oil essentially looked like the new oil I put in. Diff oil was definitely a different color, but that may be because Mobil 1 75W90 is very light in color.
