Aac 77gr otm review.

Louisiana. Jun 20, 2023. #12. Ups dropped off black tips today. Accuracy testing this weekend. Currently shooting the AAC 77grn otm, and have had a chance to take a couple of hogs with them. Both hogs were bang flop. Very happy with their performance and price. It has about the same accuracy potential as the BH 77gr OTM, yet it cost almost half the price, at $0.60/rd. I've also tried Creedmoor 77gr OTM, IMI 77gr Razor, and BH 77gr TMK, and none have performed as good as CBC OTM and BH OTM. Better accuracy than many of the 77gr rounds I tested in fact. Seems to be love for 69gr from 1:9" barrel. My Colt 20" H-Bar with 1:9 twist really likes 69 grain SMK as does my 16" 1:7 twist Tavor. I have tried 75's and 77's in the Tavor but it shoots 69 grain SMK best followed by most 55 grain ammo I've tested.

It's all bullet related. AAC doesn't manufacture the bullet, the manufacture the round. I've shot about 1k AAC match grade which use the Sierra Match King bullets, it's advertised right on the box. I've had about 0.75" groupings on average out of my AR. No issues. But if there were issues it would be bullet related, not AAC related.

I tested 7 different factory loads in zero wind, one of them was the AAC 77gr OTM, another was the AAC 77gr Sierra SMK. Averaging multiple groups per load, the "in-house" 77gr OTM was 1.317", the 77gr Sierra was 0.646". I also shot AAC 77gr TMK, which averaged 0.740". The different Hornady loads tested in the middle.

This AAC was less accurate than Black Hills, only hitting 1.25 to 1.5 MOA in barrels that shot 77 TMK Black Hills and handloaded 2.245 to 2.255 OAL TMKs .65 to 1.1 MOA. Then again, this was 100 degrees weather for the AAC and the Black Hills was 10-15 F cooler temps, so perhaps not a fair comparison.

But , the 77gr OTM load was very respectable considering the cost of the ammo. No wildly out of the group fliers, and 1/2 all through the "center" of the group. I am debating whether something like 75gr TAP T2/77gr TMK would be better than bonded soft points such as Speer 64gr Gold Dot or XM556SBCT3 in a home defense scenario.
