The key locates the flywheel in the proper relationship to the crankshaft and hence timing cannot get drastically out of spec unless someone has messed with the advance linkage.
Hi. I have a 1985 Johnson 100 hp commercial outboard. The model number is J100WMLCOC. I cannot find the wot timing spec anywhere. I have looked many times on the net and here with no luck. What I am seeing is cranking at wot with the timer base rubber stop hitting it's stop is 21 degrees. Of course at wot this should equate to 25 degrees.Jun 17, 2012. #2. Re: Throttle Cam Adjustment. To adjsut the pickup timing change the lenghth of the rod by loosening the locknut and turning the knurled nut.As long as the operation of the motor is fine, (idle, rpm, etc) then there is no reason to adjust the tabs. just loosen the arm and slide it to the right to contact the timing arm. Secure the screw and you are good to go, just don't over tighten the screw and risk stripping out the threads on the arm.
