The formula is 100-the first 2 digits of the serial # (100-08 =92) They are really nice rifles! i also know that the same numbering system was also used in 2004 as well as my marlin golden 39a, 22 caliber for s, l, and lr . the serial number on mine begins with 96 xxxxxx and it was definitely manufactured in 2004 in the north haven, connecticut plant (because marlin had 8 digit serial numbers on their guns .I got an email back from Marlin about my 336 manufacturing date. The guy said there is no chart he could send me but he did say the serial number: MR22xxxC signifies a manufacture date in 2012. No other information was given. My guess is that it was manufactured in February 2012.On the barrel, it say Marlin, Model 39A, NORTH HAVEN, CT (not the usual New Haven). The serial number on the tang, under the lever is 2164, no letter prefix or suffix. The stock is checkered and it is a crescent stock.
