You need to make several stops if you don't want the food to spoil, if you don't want to resort to mods. Even assuming you have speed demon, has a truck with 100% trunk and the way was all clear from obstructions (scrap car and zombies) the trip will still take at least one day on vanilla time settings. Rosewood has a LOT more zombies in it, mostly I think courtesy of the nearby prison. On the higher population difficulties you can end up fighting thousands of zeds in and around Rosewood. Riverside, by contrast, has the least amount of zombies of any decently sized town on the map.

Sure the bigger towns mean more loot as well but the zombies are very thick here and it's very open. Muldraugh: Also pretty large and has a large population of zombies but they tend to be more focused on the north highway and shops. The southern neighborhoods aren't so bad to clear and get a base started.
