Writing a Chaotic Good Warlock. I'm a longtime DM, so it's nice when I get to be a player. For a friends upcoming campaign, we've established two things: 1.) This is not chaotic good, this is r/chaoticevil or r/chaoticneutral at best. There’s nothing remotely good about trying to assist in the theft of a company. This wasn’t to waste the time of just the prejudice employee, this was to aid in the theft of a store. An innocent third party. Yeah, chaotic good is a good person that breaks rules and disobeys orders to help people and do good, not chaotic people that sometimes do good. I'm not familiar enough with most of these characters, but pre-dark side Revan is a decent example because he disobeyed the Jedi council to try to save people from the Mandalorians. 3K votes, 37 comments. 307K subscribers in the chaoticgood community. Chaotic neutral, IMO, is simply someone who doesn't like to follow laws and rules (hence chaotic), and doesn't particularly favor the good or the evil. What is good, and what is evil, is highly subjective IRL, but in D&D it means you don't really favor celestials over fiends. The selfish part, IMO, shouldn't play into the equation.

Even chaotic good deities command lawful good angels, knowing that the angels’ dedication to order best allows them to fulfill divine commands. (Emphasis added) So in short, in 5e, there isn’t really one. Blame 4e for using the name eladrin for high elves, taking it away from the CG celestials.

Chaotic Good characters are rebels and free spirits who believe in doing good, by their own standards. Some don't have a problem with greater systems such as laws as long as they leave them alone; others are anarchists who believe that too much 'order' is bad for everybody, and the betterment of all can only be achieved by actively rejecting any higher instances of power.

For chaotic good, Oath of Glory is perfect, I think. For NG, either Glory or Redempion seem nice. I have to ask, however: why does the Oath of the Ancients feel far-fetched to you? It has pretty clear inspiration from the Green Knight (who imo is the best of the knights of the round table), so it's not something WotC pulled out of their ass.

Chaotic Good describes creatures that "act as their conscience directs, with little regard for what others expect." My personal favourite example of a chaotic good character is Robin Hood. "Good" might've involved defending some of the other cars, too. "Chaotic" would've been joining the carjackers if they could pay enough. CG here IMO would've been joining the thieves, but convincing them to only steal from the ones with Trump/Abbott bumper stickers, and maybe leaving Miss Kenzie a nice new radio as a present.
