The V Star feels a little cheap and primative compared to my Road Star, well it is cheaper than a Road Star and almost 300lbs lighter and with a single disk front and rear drum brakes and absence of a fuel gauge it is a little primative, but that's what makes it afortable entry level bike.

I just returned from a fast-paced 6,400 mile winter cross country road trip on it where it experienced just about every weather condition. I changed the oil at about the 6,000 mile mark. But to get to the point, I rode the bike yesterday morning with no issues. One cylinder (rear) on my 1100 custom is backfiring and is sluggish at highway speeds. It idles great and revs great. Holding the throttle open causes one cylinder to "pop". I have cleaned and synced the carbs, replaced boots between card and head, checked for vacuum leaks and nothing has helped. The Yamaha V Star has a 249cc air-cooled V-twin engine. It will provide plenty of bottom-end torque as well as smooth roll-on power. The downdraft carburetor will give you the best fuel/air mixing. It will also provide the best delivery every time you throttle. One of the more fun features is the electric starting. Check the forums, but this is a great bike.
