Hey j-f, You don't need to take the radio apart to fix the battery issue. All you have to do is take the battery cassette apart & remove the small charging circuit board. When I soldered extensions onto my 7955's, I used the flat ribbon cable. My DL-55 passed its ground range check, but on 72mhz, PPM, I would get an intermittent radio hit.

I fly some 3D, but certainly not hardcore 3D. I don't see myself doing that anytime soon either. Maybe is a slick 89 overkill for me also. This is a great deal.
