Member. Nov 29, 2019. #1. A year ago I posted that my 4020 Propane tractor would not start in cold weather. It did it again in yesterdays snow storm. Turns over buy no fire. I checked the needle valve in the carb as it was a problem last year. Nope, still nice and clean. Pulled a spark plug and turned the engine over, it showed a nice blue spark.

The first step to cure miss was to remove the pencil injectors and have them tested. All cracked/popped adequately, however, 2 of the injectors test pattern was not real good if pressure was added slowly so I replaced them. This did not cure the miss.

Jun 21, 2009. #1. Hello, I have a 1967 John Deere 4020. About a month ago, I decided that I would fix the fuel gauge on it. I bought a new sensor from AI Products and I bought a new gauge from them also. When I installed them, the gauge would show about 3/4 full whether it was empty or full.The John Deere 4020 uses a cartridge-style oil filter that is 6-7/16 inches tall and 3-1/8 inches wide. This oil filter is commonly identified by the part number AR26350. Several reputable online retailers sell replacement oil filters for the 4020, including: Steiner Tractor Parts. Nick Young Tractor Parts.The 4010 and VERY early (IIRC, pre-'65) 4020 tractors DO have a 3rd reverse. The later early models and on only have 2 reverse gears that are sped up. The the early ones, 1st reverse is the same speed as 3rd forward, 2nd reverse is like 5th and 3rd reverse is like 7th. So, 3rd reverse is 12mph. Recently, after trying to start the tractor I noted the starter ran on after I released the key from the start position. The only way to stop the starter from turning was to removed the left battery terminal which resulted in a large spark.
